ACCENT COACHING: What to Expect
Dec 08, 2025
Top 5 Questions I Get About My Accent Training Program (And How I Personally Do Things)
If you're thinking about starting accent training, it's completely normal to have questions—especially because every coach teaches a little differently. In this post, I’ll walk you through the top questions I receive and explain how I personally structure my Accent Assessment and 12-week Accent Coaching Program.
This is my method, based on my experience, my teaching style, what I've learned, and what I’ve found works best for my clients.
Let’s dive in.
1. What exactly happens during the Accent Assessment?
Before we begin the 12-week program, I offer a complimentary Accent Assessment. This is a 45–60 minute session where I get to know you—your background with English, your goals, and the pronunciation challenges that may be holding you back.
During the assessment, I:
-
Ask you targeted questions about how you learned English
-
Listen to your natural speech
-
Identify patterns that affect clarity and that hold you back from your accent goals
-
Determine which sounds or concepts your program will focus on
-
Share the main sounds I already know we need to work on
This helps me build a fully personalized plan.
This assessment is crucial because I only take clients I know I can help.
Important Disclaimer:
The Accent Assessment is complimentary when you join the program.
However, if after the assessment either of us decides the program is not the right fit, you will receive a refund minus the consultation and administrative fee.
This ensures the assessment remains a meaningful professional service while still allowing both of us to make an informed decision.
2. How personalized is my 12-week program?
In my approach, personalization is everything.
No two clients have the same program because no two clients have the same accent history, goals, or challenges.
When I design your plan, I consider:
-
Your native language
-
Your English-speaking environment
-
Your goals (career, academic, social, etc.)
-
Sounds that are difficult for you
-
Your speech habits during conversation
-
How quickly you integrate new sounds
The entire curriculum is built around your needs—not a standard template.
My coaching is very hands-on, detail-focused, and tailored to your pace.
3. How much improvement can I expect, and how long will it take?
This is one of the most common questions—and one where I want to be very honest.
Accent change is a partnership.
I bring the training, structure, and feedback.
You bring the practice, consistency, and effort.
However, I invite you to read this blog post to make the most informed decision because there are some clients I'd expect to see more drastic results than others, while there are also clients I wouldn't expect a lot of improvement based on where they are in their accent journey.
Some clients want to sound more “native-like,” while others simply want to be more easily understood. I adjust my program to your needs and goals.
Progress speeds vary—what matters most is consistent practice between sessions.
4. What does a typical session look like in my coaching style?
My sessions are 50 minutes and follow a clear structure because repetition and routine help build strong habits.
Here’s what a typical session looks like:
-
Check-in
We talk briefly about how your practice went and answer any questions. -
Target Sound or Concept
I guide you through words and phrases containing the week’s focus sound. -
Structured Pronunciation Exercises
We might also work through more complex drills, sentences, and patterns. -
Conversation Practice
This is essential because even when you master a sound in exercises, old habits often return during natural speech.
My method includes conversation practice every session so we can catch and correct those slips. -
Feedback + Homework
You always leave with clear, simple exercises to practice during the week. (Hint: It'll be focused pronunciation exercises on the sound we were working on.)
Each week focuses on one sound or concept so you build accuracy before moving on.
Some sounds take more than a week—and that’s okay. I move at your pace.
5. What are your policies around refunds, scheduling, and communication?
Since every coach sets their own policies, here is how I personally work:
Refund Policy
-
The Accent Assessment is complimentary only if we move forward together.
-
If either of us chooses not to proceed after the assessment, the refund will reflect a consultation and administrative fee.
Scheduling
-
Sessions are weekly and 50 minutes long.
-
Rescheduling is possible with notice and depends on availability (please refer to my cancellation policy).
- Please review my policies for more specific info.
Between Sessions
You’ll have access to me via Telegram so you can send voice messages for pronunciation feedback.
I typically allow 2–3 messages per week, but short, quick messages are fine if you need clarification on a new sound.
I am available Monday to Thursday (so I may not reply on weekends).
Commitment
Accent change requires consistency. My policies help maintain structure while giving you ongoing support.
